7th – 12th Public Talk Memphis Centered”: Violence/Nonviolence in Memphis Elective (4/18/17)

April 12 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

The Memphis Center is proud to welcome Anthony Siracusa, a Rhodes alum and currently a Ph.D. candidate in History at Vanderbilt University. Siracusa’s research traces the development of nonviolence as strategy and ideology in the Black freedom struggle in the 20th century. In this thought-provoking talk, Siracusa – a native Memphian who has researched the area extensively – will focus specifically on Memphis, tracing how the tangled relationship between violence and nonviolence has shaped public policy and cultural understandings in our city from Reconstruction to the Civil Rights era to the present.  30 spots available
