Saturday, September 16th 9:00am-12:00pm at BRIDGES (477 N. 5th St., 38105) 125 spots available
Bridge Builders will develop unique connections with each other through communication and team building activities.

Elective opportunities:

Friday, September 8th 6:00pm-8:30pm

8th graders only XQ Discussion about high school at Crosstown (1350 Concourse Avenue., 38104)
Join the administration at Crosstown High School for a screening of “Rethinking High School,” a one-hour special meant to challenge the status quo of American schooling and encourage innovation in the way we teach and learn. Students and parents will participate in a discussion lead by Bridge Builders. Dinner will be provided. A parent or guardian is required to attend the event with the Bridge Builder. 20 spots available.

Tuesday, September 12th 6:00pm-7:30pm

7th-12th Vlogging 101 with Cloud901 at Benjamin L Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Ave., 38111)
Students will learn how to video blog. 15 spots available.

Wednesday, September 20th 5:00pm-6:00pm

7th-12th Character Design Lab with Cloud901 at Benjamin L Hooks Central Library (3030 Poplar Ave., 38111)
This lab will focus on character creation. Students will learn how to use pencil, ink, and watercolor to bring their ideas to life. Students will also learn how to write exciting characters and how their character’s personality, background, and occupation influence their design. 25 spots available.

Thursday, September 21st 5:00pm-6:30pm

7th-12th Opera Memphis at BRIDGES (477 N. 5th St., 38105)
Join us at in partnership with Opera Memphis as they perform The Telephone followed by a discussion on access to the arts.  Parents of registered students are invited to attend with their Bridge Builder.  50 spots available.

 

COMMUNITY ACTION opportunities:

Saturday, September 23rd 9:30am-12:00pm

7th-12th Interfaith Project with MIFA at Midtown Mosque (1288 Jackson Ave.,38107)

Working with the Midtown Mosque, MIFA and Memphis City Beautiful, Bridge Builders will work in interfaith teams to serve the community around the midtown mosque. Bridge Builders will also get a tour of the Mosque and have a chance to debunk misconceptions about the Muslim community. 50 spots available.

Sunday, September 24th 2:00pm-4:00pm

7th-12th DO SOMETHING: From Blight to Bright: Beautifying the Medical District at Carnes Elementary (916 J.W. Williams Lane.,38105)

Working with Neighborhood Preservation Inc and neighbors in the medical district, Bridge Builders will work to transform abandoned lots into positive spaces for the community by creating community gardens, planting flowers, picking up trash, and painting and creating kid friendly spaces. 50 spots available.

Friday, September 22nd 5:00pm-9:00pm

7th-12th Juvenile Justice Project Community Organizing Community Action at Belle Forest Community School (3135 Ridgeway Rd., 38115)

Join Midsouth Peace and Justice Center to learn about how to create change around our justice system. This training open to youth and adults will prepare you to organize your community to address injustices and create youth and adult partnership in creating and implementing needed improvements in our community.  This is the first session, our hope and the conferences hope is that you will register for the conference. Step 2: IF YOU WANT to do this, then follow the following steps to get your credit!
1. Register in your portal for this Community Action Option
2. Register for Dosomething.org
3. Go to the Mirror Messages campaign and follow the KNOW IT, PLAN IT, DO IT, UPLOAD A PIC steps on the website. After you follow all steps, a page will come up asking you to share on social media.
4. Share on social media tagging @BridgesUSA and using #BBinAction.
5. Note: If you do NOT have social media, you will need to screenshot your completion form and email to mburr@bridgesusa.org.
