Bridge Builders will develop unique connections with each other through communication, team building activities and discussion on current hot topics.

7th-12th Amplify Night Elective at Levitt Shell Amphitheatre (1928 Poplar Ave., 38104)

BRIDGES will be highlighted as an Amplify Memphis partner at the Levitt Shell, and we invite our Bridge Builders to turn out and show their BB pride. Wear your shirt, bring your family, and help us spread the word about Bridge Builders. The concert will begin at 7pm. 100 spots available.

7th-12th Youth & Police for Community Workshop #1 Elective at BRIDGES (477 N. 5th St., 38105)

In partnership with M.A.P. and the C.O.P., students will have the opportunity to work toward improved relations between youth and police. 20 spots available.

7th-8th Memphis Kids in Nature Elective at BRIDGES (477 N. 5th St., 38105)

Students will have the opportunity to visit Winchester Farm, a 1500-acre private farm east of Memphis, to fish, visit the garden, and learn about the farm. Participants are required to wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty and are strongly encouraged to bring a refillable water bottle. 20 spots available.

7th-12th Introduction to Logic Pro X Elective at Central Library (3030 Poplar Ave., 38111)

In this course, you’ll learn all you need to start composing, recording, editing, producing, and sharing your music. 15 spots available.

7th-12th Mixed Media Squad Elective at Central Library (3030 Poplar Ave., 38111)

Express yourself in a wild new way! Students will be able to discover their own artistic style by diving into a wide range of mediums such as collage, inking, found objects, and more. You’ll also learn about amazing, current professional artists. 20 spots available.

 

COMMUNITY ACTION opportunities:

7th-12th Intergenerational Community Action with Students and Parents at BRIDGES (477 N. 5th St., 38105)

In the current climate of the United States, we face environmental, political and social questions of injustice everyday. This community action aims at bridging the divide between youth and parents in the struggle to transform and strengthen our community. Students and parents/guardians are required to attend together; 75 student spots and 75 parent/guardian spots available.

7th-12th Alternatives to Violence Community Action at BRIDGES (477 N. 5th St., 38105)

The Alternatives to Violences Project is an international organization that trains people in conflict resolution. Originating from the jail system, this training is aimed at increase skills in de-escalating and responding to conflict and violence. 25 spots available.

7th-12th Blight to Bright: Beautifying the Medical District Community Action at Carnes Elementary (916 J.W. Williams, 38105)

Working with Neighborhood Preservation Inc and neighbors in the medical district, Bridge Builders will work to transform abandoned lots into positive spaces for the community by creating community gardens, planting flowers, picking up trash, and painting and creating kid friendly spaces. 50 spots available.

7th-12th Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: Domestic Violence Awareness Walk Community Action at University of Memphis Theater Building (3745 Central Ave., 38152)

October is the Domestic Violence awareness month! During this Community Action, you will participate in a March against Domestic Violence called “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes.” Young men will have the opportunity to participate by actually walking the mile march in high heels symbolizing their commitment to stand and walk with women who are often the victims and survivors of domestic violence. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. Parking will be available in the lot across Central Ave. 150 spots available.

7th-12th Facing History and Ourselves Community Teach-In Community Action at Kingsbury High School (1270 N. Graham St., 38122)

Join Facing History and Ourselves for a multi-generational, cross-community conversation that will explore the challenges of making informed, ethical decisions and the American idea of moving toward a more perfect union. 25 spots available, students are required to attend with a parent or guardian.

9th-12th MLK50 Youth Convening at First Baptist Church Broad (2835 Broad Ave., 38112)

Our Time, Our Voice is a powerful convening of high school youth from across the region who will engage in experiential learning activities to develop and amplify youth voice and promote the Youth Voice Platform for MLK50. 150 spots available.
