SPRING TRAINING opportunities for 7th-12th graders:

Tuesday, September 17th 4:30pm-7:30pm at BRIDGES (477 N. 5th St., 38105) 100 spots available

Saturday, September 21st 9:00pm-12:00pm at BRIDGES (477 N. 5th St., 38105) 100 spots available

Bridge Builders will develop unique connections with each other through communication and team building activities with a focus on public speaking.

 

Elective opportunities:

7th-12th Indie Memphis Youth Film Fest Elective at Halloran Centre for Performing Arts (225 S. Main St., 38103)

Shift One Saturday, September 8th 9:30am-11:30am

Youth will have the opportunity to attend the opening keynote speaker – Caitlin McGee from the upcoming Bluff City Law – and learn about opportunities for youth who are interested in filmmaking. Students are welcome to stay for the entire festival. Lunch provided. 40 spots available

7th-12th Indie Memphis Youth Film Fest Elective at Halloran Centre for Performing Arts (225 S. Main St., 38103)

Shift Two Saturday, September 8th 11:30am-2:30pm

Youth can attend the world premiere of 9 short films produced in the 2019 CrewUP youth Filmmaker Mentorship Program. Students are welcome to stay for the entire festival. Lunch provided. 40 spots available. Monday, September 10th 6:00pm-7:00pm

7th-12th BREAKING THROUGH: MICAH Memphis Public Meeting Elective (620 Parkrose Rd. Memphis, TN 38109)

Sunday, September 15th 4:30pm-6:00pm

Students and families are invited to hear action commitments from MICAH’S committees on education, immigration & intercultural equity, and economic equity. Community leaders will be on hand, including some of the candidates for the upcoming mayoral and city council positions. 200 spots available.

7th-12th Introduction to Playwriting Elective at Central Library (3030 Poplar Ave. Memphis, TN 38111)

Youth will gain an understanding of basic playwriting skills and learn how to craft their first play. 20 spots available.

 

COMMUNITY ACTION opportunities:

7th-12th JUICE Orange Mound Garden Community Action at Orange Mound Community Garden (2520 Park Ave. Memphis, TN 38114)

 Sunday, September 15th 10:00am-12:00pm

Bridge Builders will assist in developing the landscape of the Orange Mound Community Garden. Students will plant flowers, weed rows of greens, transport mulch, and water seedlings. Wear closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty and bring a refillable water bottle. 50 spots available

 

7th-12th Climate Reality Community Action at BRIDGES (477 N. 5th St., 38105)

 Thursday, September 19th 5:00pm-7:00pm

Students will learn about the role youth play in combating climate change and will make signs for September’s student protest against climate change. We will be painting, so wear clothes that can get dirty! 50 spots available.

 

7th-12th Memphis Festival for Unity and Peace Community Action at Pink Palace Museum (3050 Central Ave. Memphis, TN 38111)

 Sunday, September 22nd2:30pm – 5:00pm

Students will be helping behind-the-scenes in the running of this Memphis-wide festival. Youth will help hand out wristbands and programs and provide directions to festival attendees. 10 spots available.
