Bridge Builder David Lee Earns 2019 Gates Scholarship

Germantown High School graduating senior David Lee, a Bridge Builder of four years and BB CHANGE Fellow, has been named as a 2019 recipient of the prestigious Gates Scholarship. Presented by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the award provides full scholarships for 300 exceptional, Pell-eligible, minority high school seniors from across the country. Lee, of Collierville, has served for the last two years in the Memphis Youth Union cohort of Bridge Builders CHANGE. He plans to attend Duke University this fall, following in the footsteps of his two older sisters and fellow Bridge Builder alums, Christine (’14) and Elizabeth (’17). Jim Keras Subaru’s “Share The Love” Gift Breaks A Record To Build BRIDGES

On Friday night, May 10, BRIDGES hosted a special customer appreciation climb night to celebrate Jim Keras Subaru’s record-breaking gift of $42,133 in support of Bridge Builders youth programs. The Jim Keras Subaru team announced last November that BRIDGES would be their selected local beneficiary for the 2018 Subaru of America, Inc., Share the Love event. From November 15, 2018, to January 2, 2019, the company donated $250 for every new Subaru vehicle purchased or leased at more than 628 participating Subaru retailers nationwide to the customer’s choice of either a designated hometown organization or one of four national organizations. BRIDGES is proud to announce the promotion, effective Feb. 1, 2019, of Mario Hendrix to Vice President of Bridge Builders and Tosca Nance-Jones to Vice President of Community Engagement.  Hendrix, an alumnus of the youth program, has been a part of the BRIDGES family for more than 25 years, most recently serving as Senior Director of Bridge Builders. He holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Memphis and master’s in psychology from the University of Phoenix and is a graduate of the Leadership Memphis Executive Class and New Memphis Institute Fellows program. In their Jan. 31 regular meeting, the BRIDGES Board of Directors unanimously voted in six new members and a new slate of officers for the 2019 term. The new BRIDGES Board members are: Susan Christian Vice President of Marketing & Federal Advocacy Ritter Communications  Susan joined Ritter Communications in 2005 and has served as vice president of marketing since 2008. Susan leads all of the company’s communication and advertising efforts, serves as an official spokeswoman for company-related matters, works closely with cable networks regarding negotiations, and supervises the “Tubetown” staff, Ritter’s local content production team. Find out Saturday, Feb. 2, Youth Ignite Memphis 2019, presented by the BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Community Trust and FedEx Freight. Youth Ignite is a catalyst competition designed to elevate and activate youth-led initiatives to make the Greater Memphis area stronger, safer, more beautiful, and more just for all young people. The top three presenters, voted on by youth in attendance, will earn funding and support to help turn their ideas into action. Adult community leaders, including elected officials and organizational executives, will also have the opportunity to provide feedback and advice and to connect youth with resources and contacts to help launch their projects.
