🎉 Ooh wah wah, what a thrill it is to announce our THIRD #BridgeBuilders alum addition to the BRIDGES staff within a month! We're pleased as punch to introduce our new Director of Communications, Kirstin L. Cheers!Kirstin is a truly purpose-driven professional who’s served in communications roles for the Shelby County Public Defender, the Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change, and United Way of the Mid-South. But she’s also known for her thought-provoking writing and local reporting, with bylines in The Root, The Huffington Post, MLK50, High Ground News and The Commercial Appeal. "This passion was first discovered during my summer experience as a Bridge Builder during middle school,” Kirstin said. ”The first time my words were published in the local newspaper…a veteran physician contacted my editor to renew his subscription after reading my column on the impact of poverty on Memphis youth, education and access to economic and upward mobility. It was then that I knew I could make an impact with words.” Kirstin earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism and a minor in political science from the University of Memphis in 2014, and she’s now working on her masters there as well, aiming for an MA in Communications Studies with an emphasis on media and critical/cultural studies. We’re so honored to have Kirstin’s storytelling gifts, creative media skills, passion for social justice and love for our community coming back to BRIDGES. Welcome to the team, Kirstin! 💜💙💚💛🧡❤️ ...
