Leadership Opportunities for Bridge Builders

BRIDGES connects youth with a range of leadership opportunities across the Greater Memphis area. While some boards require participation in Bridge Builders Collaborate as a prerequisite, others are open to all local youth.

Our Opportunities

Youth Leadership Groups:

InterCORE
InterCORE (Intergenerational Collaborative Organizing for Radical Equity) is the intergenerational facilitation team of the BRIDGES Youth Action Center. It embodies the YAC’s vision by creating intentional spaces where youth are included in decisions that affect them throughout the planning, implementation, and evaluation phases.

Youth Justice Action Council
The YJAC (Youth Justice Action Coalition) is a Memphis-based project of Stand for Children, made up of justice-impacted and justice-connected youth and adults who seek to transform the youth justice system in Memphis. Shifting it away from incarceration and toward community-based alternatives that actually work. These alternatives are informed and created with the insights of system-involved youth at the center. We believe that those closest to the problem are closest to the solution, and through a commitment to equitable partnership, YJAC centers those most directly affected at decision-making tables.

Shelby County Youth Council (SCYC)
Youth in Shelby County deserve a voice in government, but without the right to vote, they are often excluded from decisions that affect their lives. The SCYC (Shelby County Youth Council) was established in 2019 to address this gap by giving high school students a platform to influence local government and advocate for policies that directly impact youth.

Social Change Fellowship
The Youth Action Center Fellowship is designed for youth who want to build on their Bridge Builders experience by creating social change projects in the community. Those selected in the spring will attend an initial Leadership Institute training and work for six months to a year to complete their project.

This training helped me understand the intentional need to place youth at the center of decision making, and all of the tools we can learn from.”
